Seasonal Transition

This August editorial from Elle France is just what I need to get me in the mood for fall. Wardrobe inspiration is oozing off the pages, making me excited for the temperature to drop a few degrees. Let's face it, Kate makes everything look good.

Maxi Moment

So sorry I have been MIA the past couple days. It was quite the weekend followed by quite the early workweek. Although moments have been slipping through my fingers this week, I do still have time for a maxi moment today!

I love wearing maxi dresses throughout the summer but I think they are particularly perfect for the transition from summer to fall. Dresses always feel like summer but the length of a maxi keeps you covered and warm. You will definitely see me donning maxi dresses the rest of this month.

Cheers to maxing out this indian summer!

GP + DVF

I love this interview between Gwyneth Paltrow and Diane von Furstenberg. I admire both women so much so this interview pairing is a match made in heaven for me! What do you think?

Here's what Gwyneth had to say about the interview:

"
I have always had a deep admiration for Diane von Furstenberg, who is as elegant as she is dynamic, as cultured as she is intelligent. She is successful, independent, sexy and a mother and grandmother...needless to say, she is an icon. She interviewed me for the cover story of next month’s InStyle magazine and below you will find the reciprocal."

QWhen did you start designing clothing and what motivated you to start?
AI didn’t always know what I wanted to do, but I knew the kind of woman I wanted to be. I knew that I wanted to be an independent woman and to have a career. Suddenly I was married and pregnant and moving to America at the age of 22. So I made a few dresses in a factory in Italy to sell in America. I was always motivated by a desire to pay my own bills and to be independent.

QWhat was your inspiration for your Fall 2012 collection? What do you think the theme of this season will be?
AI am always inspired by women - strong, independent, fearless women. It becomes about where she is going... what she’s doing. For fall, she has a "Rendez-Vous" and it's all about mystery and the suspense leading up to a meeting. There are some Surrealist undertones, like the work of Dali, Magritte, Miro... I think this season is very mysterious, fall is always a little darker, and this season is particularly sexy.

QWhen planning our fall wardrobe, what colors, shapes, and cuts should we be looking out for this season?
AFall is all about billowing coats over sleek, body conscious silhouettes. We opened our show with the Bentley dress, which is the new wrap. It really accentuates the body and looks great under the season’s oversized coats. It falls off the shoulder a little bit. Colors are rich burgundy, cherry red and deep turquoise. And there is always black and white.

QAnd looking ahead, what was your inspiration for Spring 2013?
AFor Spring, “Palazzo,” I was really inspired by my own life as a young, jet set princess, so it is about the places she travels - Rome, Marrakesh, Jaipur...there is a lot of embellishment and silver balls and flowing kaftans over silk pants. Mini dresses with color-blocking inspired by oriental architecture, arabesque shapes, and beautiful, body flattering lines.

Q: What are the 5 - 10 key pieces every woman should have in her wardrobe?
A
  • a day coat
  • an evening coat
  • a pair of really high heels
  • a black cocktail dress that travels well (love out lightweight Meena dress that you wore to my studio this summer)
  • hiking boots
  • a cozy sweater and leggings
  • a sophisticated handbag
  • a wrap dress
  • a clutch for evening...

QWhat are the pieces you’ve most loved designing and why?
AI am really focusing on accessories now...the Connect bags excite me...to have a handbag where you can use your iPad without removing it, that was really exciting for me, because it answered a practical need in my own life. I thought, I want to have my iPad with me all the time, but I want it to look chic, and now I have this amazing bag that looks fabulous and it has a custom pocket that fits my iPad, so I can pull a zipper and the screen is at my finger tips. So accessories have been a lot of fun....

Style Crush On Poppy Delevigne

British model Poppy Delevigne has my heart. Her style has me melting away because she never fails to be classically chic on the red carpet yet feminine with a bohemian twist while out and about or while sitting front row at a runway show. Feast your eyes on your soon-to-be newest girl crush!

Don't Call It A Comeback

These days I'm digging camouflage. My favorite look = the cuffed camo pants. The look is completely on point!

Hello, Yellow: Tory Burch Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear Collection

An in-depth look at Tory Burch's Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear Collection:

What inspired Spring 2013?
The American prep remix and the idea of a stylish magpie who travels the world and picks up unique and beautiful things wherever she goes. When she gets back, she pairs them with her classic silhouettes and shapes.

What look were you wearing on the runway?
I wore our blouse and skirt in our wheat print from the collection. Yellow and this wheat motif are big for us for spring - they're a bright and optimistic message.

What are some of your other favorite looks?
We took tie-dye - this humble and traditionally bohemian fabric - and created structured silhouettes, like a polo dress. It epitomizes that prep remix. The tie-dye on the runway was hand-dyed by women artisans we commissioned in Guinea.

And accessories?
This is a great way to tap into the spirit of spring - everything feels like it was picked up in a bazaar or market... We detailed bags, shoes, and jewelry with mirror-work, cowrie shells, embroidery and straw.

The trends of the collections:

Hello, Yellow: The color of the season? Fresh, cheerful, sun-kissed yellow.

Going with the Grain: Wheat - the ultimate symbol of spring and optimism.

Fit to be Tie-Dyed: A cool reinterpretation of the beautiful batik (these are hand-gyed by women artists in Guinea).

Fill in the Blanc: White is the perfect canvas to showcase bold, artisanal details and accessories.

Traveler's Check: A touch of the far (and not-so far) flung gives classic silhouettes a bohemian charm.
